Bafoussam, West Region, 25 mars 2025.
This Wednesday marked a major milestone with the official launch of the second phase of the Drépa.Acci-2 project, aimed at strengthening the fight against sickle cell disease in Central Africa and Côte d’Ivoire.
Held at Hotel Mbatkam under the leadership of the Regional Delegate of Public Health, the ceremony brought together key health actors, partners, and community stakeholders committed to reducing the burden of this genetic disease.
The project, led by GEDREPACAM with the support of the Pierre Fabre Foundation, will be implemented in three major health facilities:
Bafoussam Regional Hospital
Foumban Regional Annex Hospital
Ad Lucem Hospital Bafang
Key objectives include:
Screening at least 90% of newborns using rapid diagnostic tests
Confirmatory testing for 100% of screened newborns
Comprehensive care for all confirmed cases in children under five
Sickle cell disease remains one of the most widespread genetic conditions in Sub-Saharan Africa, with thousands of children affected each year. Early detection and proper care are critical to improving life expectancy.
Humanitarian Response Actions (HURAC) was honored to be invited to this important launch ceremony, reaffirming its commitment to supporting health initiatives, community awareness, and inclusive care for vulnerable populations. Together, let’s strengthen partnerships and scale up efforts to save lives!
